LUYG! 8/8 Results

This past weekend we had the BIGGEST LUYG TURNOUT YET! Previous tournaments we couldn’t even get a full 16 man bracket, though this time around we got 21! Big thanks to all the participants of this tournament for coming out, and special thanks to the San Diego players that came out for this event as well.

Console is only a bit over 2 months away, which means possibly one or two more LUYG’s to go before console release. No worries though I will still be holding LUYG’s after console releaase, and things will start to get really interesting. Though keep in mind getting a head start before the huge wave of new players is never a bad idea.

There were two events for this tournament, the first was a 5 man from SoCal vs. 5 man from SD team tourney exhibition match, and second was the regular singles tournament. Check out the 5v5 exhibition videos below (in order):

LUYG! Tournaments in Norcal

This is JTchinoy of Norcal. We’ve had 2 LUYG! tournaments in Norcal so far and interest is growing. If you’re in the Norcal region and have been wanting to enter the LUYG! tournaments in Socal, well we have them here as well so feel free to come through! Our last tournament had 11 entrants. Our next tournament will be:

Just like the Socal tournament:
2/3 games, 3/5 rounds
double elimination
3/5 games/ 3/5 rounds in the finals

Entrance fee is $5 and all money goes into the prize. Hope to see all of you Norcal or visiting players there!

LUYG! 8/8/09 Announcement!

July has been a crazy month, so many events going on. Well it’s time to keep these LUYG tourney’s going!

This past weekend I attended Comic Con at the San Diego Convention Center which I attended both Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday I won myself a PS3, and on Saturday I came by again to test out some stuff and have some fun. The reason I bring up Comic Con is for the fact at how surprised I was for the 100 man tournament turnout that day. If we can even get just half that number to come out to LUYG tournaments, that would be great for the scene. Tekken’s got the fanbase, now it’s only a matter of time before console comes out. If you want to “Level Up Your Game” and get a head start at the tournament scene, please come out to these tournaments as it will gain you experience at tournament level play.

I will be holding this event at Super Arcade.

Super Arcade’s Address:

Tournament format will be the usual:

-3/5 rounds
-2/3 games
-Double Elmination
-$5 entry
-Top 3 gets paid 70/20/10 split (FYI, I pocket nothing from these events)

There is also going to be a 5 vs.5 exhibition tourney between the LUYG Socal and San Diego players. This will be one exciting exhibition to start off the tourney with, so be sure to make it out on time to witness this.

So the times for the events will be:

- 3:00pm 5v5 Exhibition
- 4:00pm Singles Tourney

Oh and be sure to stick around for the “Veteran’s Challenge.” Which is where you get to play one of the top players that are present to see where you stand. If you win in a FT3, we’ll even pay your entrance fee back!

This is going to be the biggest LUYG yet!

This past weekend in Northern California (Norcal), JTChinoi held a LUYG! tourney for the beginner level players at the local Norcal arcade, Sunnyvale Golfland (SVGL).

LUYG! 6/13 Results

We had a pretty good turnout for this past LUYG! tourney, 13 players entry.

And without further-a-due, here is the final match of the Grand Finals between the former champ N8 vs. the newcomer Bumjin.

The top four placers consist of:

TRUE!, a local Socal player also brought up an interesting idea. I’ll call this the “veteran’s challenge.” This is where we have any player from the LUYG! tourney try and go up against one of the veteran players in a first-to-3 wins set. If they win, they get free entrance fee to a big boy tournament, if they lose they get to review their vids and analyze what they did wrong. This can also be found in the same playlist that I’ve linked above.

LUYG …. card ranking battles?

this is just an idea being thrown out there, but how do you guys feel about LUYG card ranking battles? [aka deathmatches]

I noticed a lot of guys don’t particularly like using their cards vs the higher ranks. If I get a lot of positive feedback, I can setup a periodic date inwhich people can card deathmatch eachother for ranks. If so, I’ll probably aim for this coming Saturday since it won’t particularly be too busy with Devastation around.

again, this is mainly for the lower ranks… the dans and blue ranks [mentor, master]. if this works out and becomes popular, I can plan to do middle and higher end rank matches as well.

LUYG! Tournament Announcement 6/13

Hello there newcomers of the Socal Tekken scene. It’s that time again and this is my announcement to you guys!

On the Saturday of June 13, I’ll be hosting a LUYG! tournament for newcomers only. So here’s the specifics:

- Start time at 3pm
- Will be held at Super Arcade: 1211 Grand Ave, Walnut CA
- $5 entry fee. Payouts at the end will be split 70/20/10 amongst the top 3 competitors.
- Double Elimination

If you’ve been wanting to get better at this game and have been playing at either Super Arcade/Vid94 in the Socal area, please come out and see how you fair against your local competition.

Rules for the tournament:

- 2/3 games vs. your opponent. 3/5 games in grand finals.
- 3/5 rounds.
- Stick with one character, unless you lose then you may switch.
- Random Stage Select (unless both opponents have agreed upon a stage)

I’ve also been talking to one of the local players, Suiken, and we have come with an interesting project that will be tied in with these LUYG! tournaments. Keep on the look out for the update!

An update regarding the site: I’ve been a little busy lately, and one more week until finals. Which means I haven’t had much time to work on this site as of yet, I’m mostly going to try and finish the “System” page up top as detailed as possible, but won’t have time til after June 12th so hope for some major updates the following weeks.

Level Up Your Game! Tournaments

This past Saturday on May 9, 2009 I held a tournament for only the new up-and-coming players. My idea behind this was pretty simple, build up the scene from the ground up. I wanted this to start encouraging new players who usually shy away from the regular tournaments, because they believe “Omg, all the players in here are better than me. No point in entering if I’m going to lose.”

So basically I decided to hold this tournament so it’d be on an even playing field for the new players. Due to the small scene right now, we were only able to get 10 players. Though it was a small tourney, some matches were very close and down-to-the-wire.

The format of the tournament was just like any other tournament. Clock is set to 60 seconds, 3 rounds a match, 2/3 games versus your opponent, and double elimination (meaning if you lost in your best of three to one of your opponents in winners bracket, you get a second shot from losers.)

You can check out some of the matches here on N8′s Youtube channel. Unfortunately not all the matches in the tournament were recorded, due to the battery running out.

I think I’ll try and hold these tournaments once a month, so if you’re from the Socal area and want to “LEVEL UP” come out to these tournaments. I’ll make a post on when I’ll be holding the next one.

Also I’m going to try and talk to some of the other top players from different regions and see if they are willing to do the same thing. Gotta start establishing the scene early on . It’d be cool to have something like LUYG! (Socal), LUYG! (Norcal), LUYG! (NYC), etc…
